Summer is here...
and so is the need for keeping your instrument "in the cool"....
Just a reminder to take care of your instrument during the hot summer months.  Don't leave it locked up inside a car,
the interior of a car on a hot, sunny day can exceed 122 degrees in just 20 minutes.  Remember, that's enough to kill a
living creature! It's too much of a temperature change too quickly to be safe for your instrument.  Excessive heat can
loosen glue joints, promote cracking, break strings, loosen pegs, warp bows, the list goes on.

If you must leave your instrument in the car, put it in the trunk, the temperature change is more gradual than in the
passenger compartment.  Also cover it with a blanket for insulation to slow down the temperature change.  And, don't
be gone too long.

What if your instrument was left too long in the hot or cold?  Leave it in the case, take it inside and let everything
equalize gradually before opening it.  I generally suggest no less than 2 hours to allow things to settle down before
opening the case.

This is also a good guideline for receiving instruments through the mail.  Boxes can get very hot inside those trucks on
a sunny day.  If your box feels rather warm when you get it, cut it open and then just leave it, packing and all, to cool
down gradually for a couple hours.  Generally speaking, the padding material around the instrument case also acts as
insulation (at least it does with how we pack it!).

What else can you do at our music shop?
Summer is a great time to visit us at Gianna Violins!  I know family members can get bored with tagging along with the
family musician to the "ultimate toy store".  Fortunately we have many interesting attractions nearby:

Our shop is right beside a quiet cove on
Ft. Loudon Lake.  There are docks and a launching ramp.  If anyone in your
group likes to fish or swim, they'll be quite content while you play with the instruments.  So, bring swim suits and/or
fishing gear!

For the very small children we have a small water garden with colorful fish.  Gianna will be delighted in assisting small
visitors in feeding and watching the fish.

Our own children will be more than happy to entertain your children!

We're less than ten miles from
Lenoir City.  There are play parks, ice cream shops, walking trails, restaurants and
shops available.  Just ask me, Gianna, and I'll be glad to give directions, print maps, etc.

Want to spend the entire day?  Family members can enjoy nearby
Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Dollywood, The Great
Smoky Mountains and Knoxville.  Again, we'll be happy to assist in driving directions to area attractions.

What about pets?  Well mannered pets are welcome to come in out of the heat!  Just ask, we have water and treats.
Jazz & Nestle (the resident shop dogs) do fine meeting new fur friends.
