Eastman Strings Varnish

Eastman's elegant golden-age style instruments are finished by hand   in traditional,
handmade spirit varnish.  Many time-consuming coats cover the instrument with a thin, supple layer that doesn't
interfere with sound production. Unlike most makers, Eastman charges
nothing extra for this traditional finish.
Non-traditional lacquers, polyurethane, and the like tend to inhibit vibration when placed directly on wood, cutting the
sound of almost all production and most small-builder mandolins.  Eastman mandolins come with either a straight spirit
varnish finish or with a very thin lacquer overcoat which is buffed back almost to the varnish.  The straight spirit varnish
is a mellower, less reflective, more rustic look.  Lacquer overcoated mandolins are glossy shiny.  Because of the hand
application and techniques used in Eastman's shop, minor irregularities, roughness in the turn of the scroll and under
the fingerboard, and minor crackling or checking may occur.  These are not defects and are not cause for warranty
service.

Eastman Mandolins have come in several color schemes, with variations from mandolin to mandolin as in any
completely handcrafted product:

1.  Sunburst:  Shades from dark red-brown to golden-yellow.  Classic/Sunburst:  Classic back and sides, mellow
sunburst front.
2.  Tobacco Sunburst:    Yellow centered grading strongly to dark brown on the edges.
3.  Golden Age:  Gorgeous pumpkin / mustard color
4.  Blonde:  Light yellow-brown/natural wood finish.
5.  Classic:  Shades from dark red-brown to golden-brown.
6.  Black:  Transparent black varnish
7.  Amberburst:  golden amber grading to dark brown.
