Gianna's Appalachian model instruments are well known for their warmth, easy playing characteristics, and surprisingly sweet tone. We've arranged for a top notch Kazanlak maker to produce the new line of Appalachians in his small shop.
The Appalachian™ captures the spirit of the mountains, with a woody, clear, singing tone that longs to echo in a mountain church or rise above a dancing riffle high in the Smokies. Each is a unique heirloom with a distinctive appearance and a unique name in Gianna's own calligraphy. While this is our most popular model for folk fiddlers, we find bluegrass and country fiddlers, classical players of all levels, and amateurs love these fiddles for their easy playing characteristics, supple response, substantial reserve, and beautiful sweet tone.
- Our most popular model capturing the tone,
feel, and response of a fine vintage fiddle
- Compact Guarneri del Gesu pattern in highly
flamed Carpathian maple
- Skillfully hand-carved top, back, and scroll
- Hand inlaid purfling
- Available in three different setups: Classical,
Folk, or Steel-String Fiddle
- Antiqued oil varnish finish
- Professional level strings
- European bridge (Despiau D or Aubert No. 7)
tuned and compensated
- Fine rosewood fittings
Fiddlers at the Smoky Mountain Fiddlers Convention inspired The Appalachian™ through their admiration of the best of the European imports from the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. These violins have a dark, rich, full tone and play very easily now that they are broken in. The Appalachian™ is ideal for players seeking smooth power and supple response, but with the reserve power strong players seek. The Appalachian™ is at home as a solo instrument or in ensemble work.
Each Appalachian™ bears a unique Appalachian- related name — for example “Spring Beauty” after the wild flower — in Gianna’s own calligraphy. The easy playing characteristics and mellow, rich tone make this our most popular model. Both instruments are entirely set up in our shop with hand split soundpost, properly planed fingerboard, excellent simple fittings, quality strings, and a well cut French bridge.
